Artificial Intelligence has been a goal of computer science ever since the dawn of computing. Alan Turing, termed the father of AI had a vision of a computer that could mimic human behaviour, and wrote a paper titled “Computer MAchinery and Intelligence” to share his views on the subject.

Born in 1912, Turing was a brilliant mathematician, logician, and one of the first computer scientists. He is considered to have been one of the foremost thinkers in the field of artificial intelligence which outlines the capability of a computer of machine to exhibit human behavioral skills and task completion abilities.

The Turing Test, an experiment of a machine’s ability to exhibit intelligent behaviour equivalent to, or indistinguishable from, that of a human was described by Alan Turing in his paper. He proposed a situation where a machine interacts with an interrogator, who has be fooled into believing that the machine is a human being. His test has been tried numerous times in the past several decades, but as yet, no computer has successfully overcome it. Hopefully in the years to come, a computer will succeed, that is the future I am waiting for!
